Do you need to apostille a New York City Birth Certificate?
In this post, we will discuss how to order a new long-form New York City birth certificate with the exemplification letter from the New York City Health Department. This article pertains to people born in any of the five Burroughs of New York City which includes the following:
- Bronx – Bronx County Clerk
- Brooklyn – Brooklyn County Clerk
- Manhattan – New York County Clerk
- Queens – Queens County Clerk
- Staten Island – Richmond County Clerk
If your birth certificate originates from outside NYC, please contact the County Clerk’s office in the County you birth certificate originates from for a new certified copy. An exemplification is not necessary if your birth certificate originates outside of NYC.

Step 2: Mail in your NYC birth certificate and exemplification letter with our New York order forms for processing. Please call or email us for the most up-to-date processing time and availability.
Once we receive your documents, if we have any questions or concerns, we will contact you by email and phone. If not, we will begin to process your documents. Birth certificates from NYC require County Clerk authentication before the New York Department of State will issue the apostille (two-step process). If you do not have the exemplification letter and want us to review what you currently have, please email us a copy.
