To retire in the Philippines, you generally need to show proof of a certain level of income or financial assets, depending on the type of visa or residency program you are applying for. The most common options for retirees are the Special Resident Retiree’s Visa (SRRV) and the Tourist Visa (with regular extensions).
Special Resident Retiree’s Visa (SRRV)
This visa allows retirees to live permanently in the Philippines with multiple-entry privileges. To qualify, you must meet financial requirements:
- Age and Deposit Requirements:
- 50 years old and above with a pension:
- Must have a monthly pension of at least $800 (single) or $1,000 (couple).
- Make a bank deposit of $10,000.
- 50 years old and above without a pension:
- Make a bank deposit of $20,000.
- 35 to 49 years old:
- Make a bank deposit of $50,000.
- 50 years old and above with a pension:
- Health Insurance:
- You need to have valid health insurance that covers you in the Philippines.
Tourist Visa (Extended Stay)
If you don’t want to apply for the SRRV, you can extend a tourist visa for up to three years. However:
- You are not required to show proof of income for initial tourist visa applications.
- You will need to demonstrate that you have the financial means to support yourself for longer stays (e.g., bank statements or proof of regular remittances).
Key Considerations:
- Income verification: The government may require documents like pension statements, bank records, or proof of income.
- Health insurance: It’s advisable to have health insurance to cover medical needs while living abroad.
- Financial security: While the Philippines offers a low cost of living, it’s essential to plan your budget to include housing, healthcare, and lifestyle expenses.
