Do you need to apostille your special power of attorney for the Philippines?
As of May 14, 2019, the Philippine Consulate no longer authenticates signatures on certain public documents, including:
- Notarized documents (Special Power of Attorney)
- Documents signed/issued/certified by Federal, State, County, City, University, or School Officials.
To use these public documents in the Philippines, they now require an apostille certificate issued by either the Secretary of State’s office or the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C.
For example, if you are in California and need to apostille a Special Power of Attorney for the Philippines, follow these steps:
- Notarize the Document: Meet with a local notary public to have your Special Power of Attorney signed and notarized.
- Obtain the Apostille: Once notarized, mail the document to our California apostille office for processing. We have offices in Los Angeles and San Francisco.
